Maynard's history dates back to 1652 when Walter Maynard, the illustrious ancestor of the Van Zeller family, became one of the first British merchants to ship Port from Oporto

Unfiltered LBV Ports, if stored in a cool place (store approximately 8°C to 10°C) after the bottle has been opened, can provide enjoyment for two sometimes three weeks. For filtered LBV Ports, these typically can last up to 10 to 12 days after being open, without any obvious deterioration of quality.

2018 was a roller-coaster of a year with an exceptionally wet spring followed by a summer punctuated by heatwaves. Whilst not a general declaration, the ports we have tasted are excellent. Quevedo, who have a several prime vineyards, each with their own micro-climate, were able to select the best grapes to blend into their vintage and the result is a port worthy of its declaration.

Quinta da Devesa Vintage Port is an exceptional wine, produced from carefully selected grapes of the best plots, exclusively from the estate. Vinified traditionally in granite lagares, the ageing process occurred in oak vats before bottling, between the second and third year.

The 2018 Vintage Port is a 50/30 blend of Tinta Roriz and Tinta Barroca, with the rest Sousão, all aged in old balseiros (large upright barrels) for one year. It was bottled May 21, 2020, with 115 grams of residual sugar. Sweet and light on opening, not showing much concentration, this does better with structure. It has some serious pop on the finish, eventually overwhelming the sweet fruit. …

Although the nose displays the seductive, opulent red fruit character which is a familiar feature of Roêda vintage ports, there are also intense, woodland berry aromas which add focus and finesse. About the Vintage
The 2018 growing season was a rollercoaster, consisting of a winter drought, a deluge in spring and heatwaves through the final ripening period. There was almost three times the average amount of rainfall in March at Quinta dos Malvedos, which meant that the growing cycle started later. As a result, the berries were more vulnerable to the heatwaves during the final ripening period, when temperatures reached 43ºC at the estate. …
