"A light tawny colour, almost a medium rose, with very slow legs. The nose smelt of marzipan, rosewater and aniseed. A medium bodied taste of ripe dates with a dash of spirit and a fantail finish lasting a good while. This grand port was alive and delivering pleasure. Of the five Raby Castle Ports this was the one which I was most curious to taste, especially since Michael Broadbent’s notes on this vintage Port were modest, from his experience it wasn’t showing well in it’s early life. The excellent cool and damp cellar conditions have aged this 1950 in the best kind of way, bringing out the true quality that would make John Smithes proud. Both bottles consistent.
Tasting note: Wonderful fresh, elegant and refined taste. Making for a very delicate yet suave smooth vintage port of absolute fantastic balance. 94p. April 2024. EV.
