1975 Port Vintage Report
The 1975 vintage port declaration came shortly after the 1974 revolution. Under pressure of nationalisation, the port shippers were keen to show what was possible after a run of weak vintages. Whilst the ports are not in the same league as the other 70's declarations like the 1970 or the 1977, they have stood up well and represent a superb quality vs price ratio. Recent tastings have demonstrated that the best are elegant and a pleasure to drink. The wines are now fully mature, with the top producers producing good '75s that will grow old gracefully. They are elegant, fruity and well balanced but not big. A port from 1975 would make an excellent 50 year old wine gift for a birthday or anniversary.

Maynard's Port, 1975
Colheita Port in Decanter
Exclusive to VWP
The 1975 Maynard’s Colheita Port is a beautifully aged single-harvest tawny, matured in seasoned oak casks for decades before bottling. Colheita Ports differ from Vintage Ports in that they spend extended time in barrel rather than bottle, developing extraordinary complexity, softness, and layered depth. This 1975 expression reflects nearly half a century of careful maturation, offering a taste of history in every glass.
In the glass, it shows a glowing amber-brown hue with olive-green tinges at the rim — a signature of long barrel aging. The nose is intensely aromatic, bursting with dried fruits, roasted nuts, orange marmalade, and hints of vanilla, old leather, and exotic spices. …

Offley Port, 1975
Vintage Port
The 1975 Offley Boa Vista is a fascinating and rare single-quinta Vintage Port from a challenging yet underrated year. While 1975 was not universally declared, some producers—like Offley—bottled wines from specific estates such as Boa Vista that showcased individual vineyard character and the potential for long-lived, elegant Port. This wine is now fully mature and offers a glimpse into the more restrained and nuanced side of vintage Port from the mid-1970s.
On the nose, it displays delicate, evolved aromatics of dried cherry, orange peel, walnut, and soft baking spices. Secondary notes of leather, old wood, and sultana mingle with floral hints and a touch of balsamic complexity. …
