The 1958 Warre's Vintage Port is a classic vintage port from one of the oldest British port houses, Warre's, established in 1670. This vintage is known for its exceptional quality and longevity, making it a prized possession for collectors and connoisseurs.
Tasting Notes After more than six decades, the color of the 1958 vintage port is now a deep tawny / mahogany, reflecting its long ageing process. On the nose there is a complex and mature bouquet with notes of dried fruits (such as figs, prunes, and raisins), nuts, caramel, and spice. There are hints of leather, tobacco, and a slight earthiness.
Palate: The wine will exhibit a rich and smooth texture with flavors consistent with the nose—dried fruits, nuts, and spices, along with hints of toffee, chocolate, and possibly some orange peel or cinnamon. The tannins will have softened significantly, providing a velvety mouthfeel. A long, elegant finish with a balance of sweetness and acidity, leaving a lingering impression of its complex flavours.
Serving and food Pairing Decanting is essential to remove sediment and allow the wine to breathe. Given its age, decanting should be done carefully to avoid disturbing the sediment.This wine needs a port tasting glass or white wine glass to concentrate the aromas. This vintage port pairs well with aged cheeses, especially blue cheese, as well as with nut-based desserts or simply on its own as a contemplative after-dinner drink.
