About Taylors
The history of Taylor's Port stretches back over three centuries, making it one of the oldest and most esteemed Port wine producers in the Douro Valley of Portugal.
Here's an overview of the history of Taylor's Port:
Founding: Taylor's was founded in 1692 by Job Bearsley, a British merchant, who established a Port wine trading company in the city of Oporto (Porto). Initially, the company focused on exporting Portuguese wines, including Port, to England.
Expansion and Growth: In the early 18th century, the company expanded its operations, acquiring vineyards and estates in the Douro Valley to ensure a consistent supply of high-quality grapes for winemaking.
Taylor Family Ownership: In the late 18th century, the Taylor family, originally from England, became involved in the company, and by the early 19th century, they had assumed full ownership. Under the Taylor family's leadership, the company grew rapidly and established a reputation for producing exceptional Port wines.
Innovation and Tradition: Throughout its history, Taylor's has been known for its commitment to both innovation and tradition. The company has always embraced new winemaking techniques and technologies while also preserving traditional methods, such as foot treading grapes in stone lagares.

Legacy and Reputation: Today, Taylor's is synonymous with quality, tradition, and excellence in the world of Port wine. The company's Vintage Ports, in particular, are highly prized by enthusiasts and collectors around the globe.
Sustainability and Environmental Stewardship: In recent years, Taylor's has also become known for its commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship. The company has invested in organic and sustainable vineyard practices and is dedicated to reducing its carbon footprint.
