Smith Woodhouse and longevity are no strangers to each other and this 1980, from probably the most under-rated house in the impressive Symington stable, is a very fine example. 1980 was a fine vintage, not overly tannic and the wines are approachable now. The Smith Woodhouse has a fine floral bouquet with hints of violets and figs, then a palate which is pleasingly mature and harmonious, marrying as it does the finely integrated spirit and the gently appreciating legacy of a ripe and generous fruit profile.
