Rebello Valente is a historic name in the Port wine industry, though it is not as widely recognized today as some of the larger producers like Taylor's, Graham's, or Fonseca. The brand was originally established in Portugal and has a history of producing high-quality Port wines. Like many Port houses, Rebello Valente produced Vintage Ports, which are made from the best grapes of a single year and are intended for long aging. Vintage Ports from years like 1963 are particularly prized, as 1963 was an exceptional year for Port.
Tasting Notes Mid-coloured red centre with an orange colour rim. Spring flowers on the nose. Medium mid-palate with butterscotch and caramel. Some tingle in the aftertaste that delivers more than you would expect.
Storing and Serving Storing: Store the bottle horizontal at a consistent temperature, ideally between 13°C to 15°C and avoid Fluctuations. Temperature fluctuations can cause the cork to expand and contract, which may lead to oxidation or leakage.
Serving: Stand the bottle upright for at least 24 hours before serving to allow sediment to settle at the bottom. Decanting: A 1963 vintage port should be decanted before serving. This removes sediment and allows the wine to breathe, enhancing its complex aromas and flavors. Optimal Serving Temperature: Serve the vintage port at a slightly cool room temperature, around 18°C to 20°C. Glassware use Port glasses, which have a small bowl and a slightly narrower rim to concentrate the aromas. Alternatively, a standard wine glass with a large enough bowl to swirl the wine can work.
Time to Drink: After decanting, a 1963 vintage port is best enjoyed within a few hours. It’s at its peak after decanting, but can remain enjoyable for a day or two if stored properly.
