Description and Reviews:
"It is amongst the beauty of Quinta de São Luiz, from the symbiotic relationship between old vines and plots of Touriga Nacional, that our Kopke's Quinta de São Luiz 2022 Vintage port is born – a wine that expresses the Quinta's terroir, full of structure, intense and fresh." Carlos Alves

Tasting Notes Deep in colour, with violet hues, this Vintage gives well away the terroir that produced it. The close relationship between the soil, the climate and the old vines of Quinta de São Luiz is like in no other place. The bouquet of this wine shows excellent complexity, with fresh and balsamic notes well-combined with the acidity and concentrated aromas of red fruit, and hints of heather and black pepper. In the mouth, acid red fruit favours stand out, as well as the assertive tannins and an impeccable acidity. Serious and compelling, this Vintage is the perfect translation of its terroir.
About the 2022 Vintage The 2021-2022 viticultural year was atypical in terms of climate conditions, with a warm and dry winter, whereas spring and summer were hotter and drier than average. Rainfall was very low throughout the plant growing cycle and temperatures were high in June, July and August. It is in the beauty of Quinta de São Luiz, from the symbiotic relationship between old vines and plots of Touriga Nacional, that our Kopke's Quinta de São Luiz 2022 Vintage port is born – a wine that expresses the Quinta's terroir, full of structure, intense and fresh.
The Port wine grapes harvested at Quinta de São Luiz, on the left bank of the Douro river in the sub-region of Cima Corgo, were the result of a dry and hot year all round, from winter to summer. Precipitation was low throughout most of the plant growing cycle, and the temperatures in June, July and August were high. The vines growing cycle began later than average, but it quickly caught up over the flowering period, and then remained slightly ahead of average in the region. Diseases and pests were not a problem in 2022, as the climate conditions did not favour their development.
Given this year's harvesting short ripening period, attention to detail in each plot and close monitoring of the grapes' maturation were key factors in achieving wines with great ageing potential and excellent quality.
